The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation takes pride in their ability to aggressively address the largest challenges facing global health.
When we met with internal staff, they described how the foundation is now at the point in its life where new projects miss opportunities to build on prior experiences and are sometimes somewhat duplicative of work done in prior years. They experienced challenges in making what they learned FAIR (findable, accessible, interoperable, and repurposable) and especially losing out on opportunities because they didn't realize some of the non-obvious connections that existed between silos.
Exaptive's software created connective tissue between their systems and an index of their information ecosystem and a flexible framework working for single teams as well as foundation wide initiatives. Portfolio managers now have access to both relevant and non-obvious information that’s led to effective reuse of historic assets and created new cross-silo collaborations that support trade-off decision making.
